Audio interface recommendation

Postby snowbird122 » Wed Jan 22, 2014 11:39 pm

I need an audio interface that will give me 3 stereo outputs (6 total outputs). I'd prefer it to be USB, not ADAT. I'm considering the Presonus 1818VSL, which looks like it would fit the bill, but it looks like some folks have had issues on this thread:

Does anyone else have any recommendations for an audio interface that works well with Forte?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Without any restrictions: RME.

Thanks Burtan. The Fireface UCX looks like it would work. $1,500 is a lot, but I do need rock solid reliability. I'll check it out further.

If you check out the GearSlutz database you'll see RME is pretty much leading the latency board and certainly utterly stable. Presonus generally doesn't fair too well;

I put a little list together when I was analysing a new audio interface (pro-home budget) similar requirements. You can find that here;

Thanks DarkKman. I have a lot of reading to do and this looks like great information. Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction.

Go for RME!
at first they are not cheap but it pays of on the long run. they are releasing new drivers even for very old interfaces. last year they released new drivers for my almost 15 year old Hammerfall-PCI soundcard.

Man.... you all are making me want to go out and replace my interface with an RME! Unfortunately that won't be in the budget for another year......

I just wanted to follow-up on this thread and let everyone know that I followed everyone's advice in this thread and went with the RME Fireface UCX. It was damn expensive, but I've never had one single problem with it, and now that I've been running it for about a year, I'm ready to expand with some more inputs and outputs, and I'm so glad that the Fireface is going to be able to handle it. Thank you everyone who recommended RME.
