Expresscard in, Cardbus out?

Postby Sonoacustico » Fri Nov 16, 2007 11:52 am

Hey everyone,
just wanted to tell you that my old faithful IBM laptop died, (well, not really, but I can afford a new one with the repair cost!) The thing is, I'm planning to buy a Dell inspiron Laptop that only comes with Expresscard instead of PCMCIA. So that I won't be able to use my Echo Indigo io. I've been reading about these expresscard-to-pcmcia adaptors, and even some Cardbus to USB2.0 adaptors. I wanted to know if any of you guys have any experience with such devices. Any tips would be most appreciated.

Cheers and thanks!

Claudio

Do you have any chance to get a Dell business model like the Latitude 830?

I have a Dell Latitude 820 since one year (after my Acer Travelmate) and I'm very happy. It has both PC-Card and Express card so I still can use my Indigo IO and have all options for the future. I just checked the successor D830, and it also has both.

Bye,
Angel

Thanks for the Reply Angel.
The Dell Latitude 830 costs around 500 dollars more than the Inspiron I was checking. is there anything that justifies that price difference? in the other hand, I want to get my laptop as smaller as possible, and I really don't like the 15.4" screen as it is not that portable, after all I don't need a huge display for sceneview.
Thanks!!

There was a thread in the SOS PC music forum regarding Express to PCMCIA cards:

No information on latency, though.

Hey there,
resurrecting this old thread to ask if there is anyone using this kind of adaptor, to use something like the Echo Indigo io, in an ExpressCard port. I'm considering about selling my Echo Indigo io since I don't use it anymore, but wanted to check out this possibility first.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers

If I had a new laptop with ExpressCard only I would sell my PCMCIA Indigo IO ASAP and get a Indigo IOx or DJx for ExpressCard.

cheers!

Claudio
